Dear Boyfriend,

We met almost 2 ½ years ago and my love for you is stronger than ever but so are my frustrations. I cannot understand why you have a problem showing my daughter as much affection and love as you do your biological daughter. K requires the same amount of attention as C but you fail to provide the need she so desperately is wanting. I understand that you only see your daughter every other weekend and one day a week between but when you divorced your wife did you not foresee this? I fear your lack of emotion towards my daughter will determine how she views men in her future and thus provide her with a negative sense of relationships and a bitterness towards men in general.

Also, it hurts my feelings when you become defensive when we converse about your child. Even the smallest subject is viewed as an attack on you and your daughter.

You say we are in this together but I feel as if there are several lines of separation between us. Lines which YOU are not willing to fill at this time.

  1. I think that if he can’t start showing affection towards your daughter it is time to break apart. 😦

  2. I agree. It takes a WHOLE lot to be a step-parent. As long as you are treating the girl’s equally and have continued to be a role model for your boyfriend, yet he still hasn’t stepped up in this amount of time, I feel it would be in the best interest of YOU and your daughter to break it off. You two will just continue to grow apart and end up resenting one another if he can’t like/love your daughter and treat both of his “daughters” the same.

Try individual therapy for the both of you as well couple’s counseling. And READ! 🙂

    Peace, Love and Happiness!
