To the New Wife of my Father

Thank you, for being there so much. I know it was hard, to assimilate your children with the children of my dad’s family, me included. You did it well, and with integrity. I know you love us all, and would do so much for each of us.

Thank you for putting a smile on my dad’s face each day.

Thank you for being understanding when I shared my biggest secret with you. And thank you, for giving me some advice.

Thank you for calming my dad down, and for trying to talk him out of it. For helping me organise my ride away, and my new home. I know that we can’t make my father change his mind, but we can still hope.

Thank you for sending me a Christmas card each year with ‘Love Dad & Lee’. I know he didn’t ask you to, and I know you wanted to.

Thank you for still loving me despite coming out as gay. I know my father does too, but you showed it better.

I would be worse off, if it wasn’t for you.

Thank you so much for writing this letter of thanks to your Stepmom and for standing up for GLBT rights, esp in Stepfamilies! HUGS!

I hope you’ll send this to her.
